University students—what do they want?

Reading Time : 2 minutes

A good GPA, a gang of farigh friends ready to hang out at any given time, a “car-friend” to drive you around for free, whenever… Wait! there is more: a stupid, rich friend who is ready to take you to expensive dine-outs. Hmm, what else is on uni students’ wishlist? Oh yes, getting a scholarship abroad with minimal to no effort!

Can’t relate? LIAR!

University life reality check

In reality, what do we get? A GPA at the cost of sleepless nights and anxiety-inducing pile of assignments and quizzes. Moreover, not one friend with the emotional maturity to talk to. Furthermore, the “stupid, rich friend” dream is crushed the second your friends ask you to pay the bill on their behalf. Scholarships are like unicorns at IBA: completely non-existent. Furthermore, at IBA, friendships are made on the basis of how many classes you share together and if you have something to give to each other in return. Next semester, bro who dis? Here you have people hanging out with tons of “friends” on their Instagram but crying their lonely selves to sleep at night.

Why is it like this?

Why do you think everyone is so grumpy and competitive at IBA? Students at IBA assume that anyone who shakes their hand has some ulterior motive attached to them. Furthermore, this just leads to many good people feeling stranded on this island of manipulative individuals.

Me? Oh, I’m not the good people. I have a tolerance span of 30 seconds for nonsense and even less for nonsense coated with a ghee of needless and redundant pangs of emotion. This is not always a good thing to do, however, I wasn’t born to shoulder the responsibility of the melodramatic in this world. I’m just getting by myself, peace.

University is not a bed of roses as we so desperately hoped in our freshman year. However, you can entertain yourself by observing excited(read: noisy), and full of life (read: lame) freshmen at the start of the year. Moreover, as the semester takes a toll on the freshman, they become less talkative and more somber. It’s such a treat. Furthermore, did I mention the side-effects of the university includes recurring symptoms of underlying sadism? My bad must have forgotten.

Oh, just a regular exchange between a freshman and a fifth-semester student 🙂

All things considered,

However, don’t lose heart because uni life is not all bad. It teaches you to have thick skin and molds you into the beginning phase of adulthood. Through this bumpy ride, I hope you can learn the art of making the yummiest lemonade when life throws its ingredients at you. (although do beware, the closest lemon life has thrown at me was a lemon-flavored biscuit wrapper straight into my face …oops I’m getting carried away. It’s the side effects again, sorry).

Anyways, what I’m trying to say, my dear lovely reader who has made it till the end, is that I pray with all my heart for you to find happiness and prosperity. Moreover, if you work hard for your dreams and religiously read all of my articles, surviving university life won’t be as hard as you think (wink wink). That’s it for today, Rumaisa signing off. Goodbye!
