Reading Time : 5 minutes

By now you’ve probably seen a plethora of people on your social media baking bread, writing poetry, taking pictures, painting, completing courses. As a result making you feel like you’re not doing something worthwhile. Certainly, you’ve probably read the phrase “The pandemic is not a productivity contest” on Instagram enough times now. But do you truly believe that? Maybe not. Nevertheless, here are 10 things to do in quarantine to get you out of your quarantine blues. Or at least get you out of your bed. Let’s go!

Reading

This seems to be a no-brainer almost. But people love to read, so much so I decided to start a book reviewing blog on this site which you can always check out. In fact, if you need some inspiration for some good books to read, make sure to check out IBA Today’s very own book club. Go through the list and see if any of the books catch your eye. Alternatively, you could always ask us to review a book for you. We’re very open to criticism that way.

Anyways, reading is important. It’s how humans receive and retain information. By reading. In fact, the last time I read a book was two years ago, and I consider myself an “Avid Reader”. At least that’s what all the awards in my school told me. Despite this, it was hard for me to go back into the process of reading a book. I figured out that the best technique was to put my phone on Do Not Disturb and just read away. I made through 50 pages before my attention span lost itself.

I’m not saying this is a sure-fire way to keep yourself entertained. But it’s good enough to trick yourself into thinking you’re doing something productive in quarantine.

Painting

Scrolling through your Instagram feed lately, you probably would have never guessed the amount of talent that has been embedded in your friend’s list. People at times can be surprising and prove to us that talent is everywhere.

Take an old canvas at your house and paint it with Gesso Primer and now you have a blank canvas to paint with.

Painting is a really therapeutic way to keep yourself entertained. It doesn’t require much effort because you can make abstract paintings and leave it up for everyone’s interpretation. However, if you’re somewhat of a perfectionist and would probably get frustrated when your art doesn’t turn out to be exactly how you imagined it to be, then maybe this isn’t for you.

Additionally, another really therapeutic way to cheer yourself up is to play various online games alone or together with your friends, like let it ride poker free game. Anyone must try it out, because it is lucrative yet engaging at the same time. So, don’t hesistate and try out let it ride game ASAP.

Writing

It doesn’t have to be poetry or even good. It just has to be words that you’ve written. Try investing in a journal and if you find writing by hand to be tiresome, then open up a Word Document and start typing away.

You can write anything. For example; how you feel today, what you saw, what you did do, what you didn’t do. Or if you’re feeling daring, a short story even.

Feel free to post your writings on your social media captions. If you don’t want the attention, then, just send it to your closest friends. Moreover, you can even send it to IBA Today and we might post them for you.

Everyone can write something, practice is what makes your writings readable.

Completing online courses

You probably already know by now that IBA has provided its students with free Coursera access. But you’re probably confused by what to choose from the plethora of online courses that are available to you. Here is one of the 10 things that will make you feel super productive.

One way to tackle this is to ask yourself what you want to accomplish from the online courses. Such as, do you want to add to your resume? Or do you want to add to your knowledge bank? Maybe you want to learn more about a field of study you never got to pursue. The point is once you answer this question, starting online courses becomes easier. Completing them is another story. I’ve found that the best technique is to try to complete them as much as possible and make a daily schedule for yourself. Once you’re finally done with the course, post the certificate on LinkedIn! Also, it’s probably best for you to do one course at a time.

Watching TV

You know when you’re scrolling through your Facebook or other social media platforms and you see a pop-culture meme about a TV show or a movie, but you could never understand it. Well now is the time to watch all the movies, whether it’s through Netflix or Amazon Prime or whatever. Just watch the movie you’ve been wanting to for the past 4 years.

Learning how to cook

One of the 10 things on this list is a life skill. If you’re like me and burn everything you touch, quarantine would probably be a good time to learn how to not do that. Additionally, it’ll score you some points with your mom. Finally, her child can self-sustain. It’s also really useful for those random 4 am binges. You can find various recipes all over social media.

Taking a walk on your roof

You’re not getting out of the house probably. But you still need fresh air, you’re human. For example, take a walk on your roof, your balcony, your street, something. You need to get out. You need fresh air. Moreover, you could take some pictures of the sky. Post them on social media. Just do it.

Cleaning out your room

I cleaned out my dresser and took out 5 years’ worth of trash. Hey, you’re always complaining about the lack of space right. Maybe it’s because you have things that you don’t need, and now you can’t store the things that you do need.

Clean out your closet or your study table or whatever and be prepared for the trip down memory lane. It’s therapeutic. To conclude, you do not need those jeans that no longer fit you.

Planning for life post-pandemic

Yeh waqt bhi guzar jaye ga (this too shall pass). You need to be ready for when it does. Maybe the fall semester will be on campus. You should start getting ready for that. Plan for the evening out with your friends and families and the shopping sprees and restaurant binges you will be a part of. The movies you’ll watch and the new memories you’ll make. Super important. So, plan and plan generously. Remember to take loads of pictures for your social media feeds!

Breathe in the Quarantine

You don’t have to do everything on this list. In fact, it is completely okay if you do none of the 10 things in quarantine. But you must do this one. Take a breather, relax. Sit down and understand that this is not normal. Therefore, it is okay if you are not behaving normally. Talk to your family, to your friends, have a cup of chai on your roof. Do not panic. I know there seems to only be gloom and doom, but this is not the end. Stay safe, wash your hands, and practice social distancing.
