As the weather is getting chillier, a lot of us tend to consume more and more of our favourite winter comfort food.

From gajar ka halwa to gulab jamun, from kahwa tea to mac and cheese, winter warmers can easily soothe our body with warmth. One such winter delight that a lot of is a huge fan and love to consume in this weather, is a nice cup of hot cocoa. Made with melted chocolate, cocoa powder and topped with shaved chocolate or a nice dollop of whipped cream, a cup of steaming hot chocolate can make us feel so happy and satisfied. There are various other names for this drink such as hot cocoa, drinking chocolate or just cocoa.

While searching for the perfect recipe to make this winter, I tried and tested quite a few recipes found online. During this process, I did make a few changes and alterations as per our taste buds and likeness. So here’s a recipe that I use often whenever I’m feeling cold or just simply craving a mug of chocolate.

Ingredients

Hot chocolate

Milk ½ litre

Sugar 2 & ½ tablespoons

Milk chocolate ¼ cup (crushed)

Cocoa powder 2 tablespoons

Salt 1 pinch

Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

Method

  • In a saucepan, add milk and bring it to boil.
  • Add sugar, milk chocolate, cocoa powder while whisking it until well combined. There should be no lumps.
  • Add salt and vanilla essence, stir well until it starts to boil.

It is suggested to always keep stirring while the milk is hot to prevent any lumps from developing. Nobody likes to have an uneven textured hot chocolate. The vanilla essence is essential for enhancing the flavour of the overall product!

Hope this recipe brings warmth to your winters!
