Reading Time : 3 minutes

Welcome aboard freshies on this new, exciting, and wondrous journey of your life. This is the beginning of all the things you dreamt of. It is the start of an era that is going to last forever in your memories and reflect on your professional life. I am sure by now you must have heard a lot about what to expect from IBA and its faculty, but here are a few things that you should not expect from professors at IBA.

Don’t Expect Leniency on Attendance

The professors might forget to take your quiz but they will never forget to mark your attendance. Some professors even like to play a little game with you where if you do not make it to class in the first five minutes, you will be marked absent. Beware of such professors and start working out as you might have a lot of running to do. If you are lucky, you might get a class with a professor who marks attendance at the end of the 75-minute lecture. This way you won’t have to worry about including cardio in your routine. According to IBA’s attendance policy, you are allowed five absences for each course in one semester so use them wisely. Thus, do not expect leniency from IBA professors.

Rely on Yourself for Learning Material

The biggest part of being an adult is to find help for yourself on your own. The professors at IBA help you a lot with providing material to study from but if you really want to increase your knowledge bank then you ought to be resourceful. IBA Library has access to great book-shelf and online materials that can aid you in your learning. Moreover, stay connected with your seniors for notes and sources that will help you prepare for your exams. Do not be afraid to ask questions in class. If you are not satisfied with a teacher’s response to your query, approach the Teacher’s Assistant. If that does not put your mind at ease then surf through the web till you find your answer.

This is the place where you can explore. Where you can ask all sorts of questions. Professors are limited to course outline but you should not shy away from learning more. Therefore, do not always expect IBA professors to spoon-feed your knowledge.

Good, Bad or Fair Graders

I am sure you must have heard plenty of instructor reviews revolving around the question of what type of a grader they are. This is your first semester; hence, you are stuck with the professors assigned to you. But from the second semester, you will have the precedence to choose your preferred instructor. Many seniors will advise you to go along with professors who give good grades. What does that mean? It means that with these professors your entire course becomes a piece of cake; informed quizzes, easy exams, and these professors generally have a no-fail policy. However, this does not necessarily mean your learning in the class will be compromised.

The bad graders are those professors who have a policy of never giving an A to their students. Do not ask them why as you might climb on to their hit-list of students not getting anything above a C-grade. Do not worry though, there are not many teachers like this.

Fair graders or tough graders are the professors who expect you to earn your grade. They are keen on class participation so do the assigned readings and brush up on general knowledge. Their quizzes, assignments, and exams all require you to put effort because that is what is going to get you your grade. For these professors, buttering never works so do not waste your efforts there. In fact, it is with these professors that you actually get to learn a lot too.
