The Rocks

Reading Time : 2 minutes

A typical IBA students’ week starts off with a melancholic Monday, piling assignments by Wednesday, a heap of work by Friday. To top it all off, we all overload the work in less than 24 hours to have a pleasant weekend. On any random day of the ragging week, we lose our minds and drive off to The Rocks.
I remember when I first came to IBA, I used to visit The Rocks every other week. Many would question, “Aisa kya hai, itna kya karnay jatay ho udher?” but these were questions only relatives, family, or people outside of IBA mostly inquire about. So here I am, answering to “Why IBA students love visiting The Rocks?”

The journey to The Rocks

The plan initiates when one of the impatient friends in the gang urges for an escape; while sitting at a KU canteen under the sun, accepting the inevitable Karachi tan. The rest of the gang follows as their inner wearisome soul awakes. In a matter of minutes, everyone is ready to take off to THE ROCKS.

A couple of cars start filling up while everyone battles for the front seat, one being the lucky one claims shotgun. The drive to the rocks is pretty nauseating since it takes over an hour to get there from IBA Main Campus. What makes the drive worthwhile is the company. Many of us pull down the windows in our non-airconditioned cars or rickshaws, while we talk about every ridiculous thing that happened throughout the day. We give and we take and we laugh at it all. No wonder why time flies, and that nauseating bumpy ride seems like a minute.

The Destination

What makes The Rocks so special?

But what’s so special after all? Dusk or dawn, an hour before the first light or the last light, we finally reach our destination. To the corner at the edge of the steep rocks, we all choose a rock and settle down. For once the gang is finally hushed. We all stare at the sea while the seagulls fly and swim along with it. At this point, everyone unloads their burden.

Everyone has troubles in their lives and we all cater to them alone, but at The Rocks, we’re all in this together. No one speaks of their worries, but they all give it up here. It’s within the simplest connection of sharing your headphones, listening to good music, and feeling alive. Once we are done setting our troubles free into the sea, along with the winds, we finally have a laugh and tell each other that today was a beautiful day!

So I hope this week you visit The Rocks with your friends; you share, have a laugh, absorb the peace and let go of the unrest. Set yourself free and stay happy. Happy reading!
