Enrollment came and went, but many of us are still traumatized. While some boast “six out of six!” most of us are still wounded from the harrowing experience. The new portal was supposed to begin a peaceful era of enrollments, but UMS was nothing but a disaster. As crowds of stressed students surround the Program Office, one can’t help but wonder, “Where is the ISG?”
During the campaigning, many chants were chanted and one of them was: “We will make the enrollment process easier”. Needless to say, the reality was the diametrical opposite.
We elected a government, not event organizers.
While the ISG has been very active in hosting Qawali Nights and other events, the students must remember that we elected a Government NOT event organizers. Student governments exist to represent the student body and advocate for their rights with the administration. Of course, the ISG can’t fix the enrollment process by itself. It, however, can be a formal medium that demands the administration to improve the system that has haunted students for years.
The current government is the same one that mobilized hundreds of students in front of the Fauji Foundation building after the results of the initial elections. However, no protest was organized by the ISG, despite countless students suffering from the unfair enrollment.
It’s about time ISG takes action.
Other promises were made apart from smoother enrollment such as larger shuttles, better food options, a heavily emphasized girls’ common room, and many more. Almost halfway through, and we have still yet to see any of these changes. It’s about time the IBA students’ government put down its “event organizer” hat and took some real action.
