My name is Sheikh Shehroze and this is my journey at IBA. Rewind to 2019, a young extrovert Punjabi, hailing from Sialkot, secured straight A*’s in A levels. I became one of the few among the leagues of student camaraderie to secure admission into the likes of King’s College London, City University of London, and Queen’s Mary for a degree in LLB.
But, fate had something different in store for me. Soon the world was battered by Covid. This brought an impasse to my advancement in pursuing my law degree from a foreign university. The pandemic had cast a shadow that somehow capsized my aspiration. In such a turbulent phase of my life, my wish to become a lawyer went awry. Instead, I tried my luck at IBA Karachi, and guess what? I got admission into BBA, one of the most prestigious universities in the town. Welcome to my life guys!
Sorry to disappoint you all if you are anticipating a struggle and sob story because mine’s a lot different. It has been more the story of a privileged guy who couldn’t get what he wanted, but here’s the twist. Coming to the IBA, I wanted to use my privilege, speak through it and help those around me. The tags of “most popular guy of the batch of 2024” and “one of the most helpful seniors” that I came across are more than enough to underscore what I have achieved rather than what I wanted.
Excelling Academically and Socially
Unlike many, my IBA journey has been smooth sailing. Students mostly try and confine their sociability within groups of their batch-mates until they graduate. For me, the stretches of friendship and sociability extended across the board, free from the limits and confines of age groups, class, status, batch-mates, or so-called senior-junior disparity in terms of relationships. I enjoy God’s blessing in any age or form. This is something that has me partaking in the value of diversity and equipping me with sagacity and a larger experience of life. Maintaining my GPA had never been a problem for me since I can always flex my 24/24 enrolment record to this day. Along with an exceptional academic record regarding which my transcripts can attest. My philosophy has been simple for IBA Grading System: Take teachers who give good grades, since there’s no teacher with zero learning experience.
Throughout my IBA journey, I have had the chance to help many of my fellows steer through their quandaries concerning either their daily social affairs or DC matters. One thing that caught my observation was that all of them were looking for an easy way out whether it pertained to their relationships, IBA policies, assignments, or even mids/finals. Believe me when I say to them, ‘None of them would be disappointed when they have full knowledge of what’s going around them and that comes from setting realistic expectations.’ In my advisory dispensation, I counseled them that IBA can provide them with the best growth options and the environment if they are wise about making decisions. I just want to plead with them all to make the most out of this experience at the IBA.
Making the Most of the IBA Journey
As for me, I took advantage of and reaped the maximum out of the provided options at IBA. I always wanted to study abroad and IBA gave me the perfect environment apropos to opportunities. As if now I’m completing my second exchange semester in France, I did my first in Turkey. I couldn’t have ever imagined going around the world while my alma mater was close to home, but it was just due to determination that paid off. The reason why I point out IBA is the best is because I have contrasted it with my experience at top business schools in Turkey and France.
The way IBA teachers teach, and the way our student societies prepare us for practical life, cannot be found anywhere in the world. There is a reason why IBA graduates are preferred in workplaces. It is because their reputation precedes them. One might think IBA has a lot of workload or that teachers are unfair. But one should remember that nothing can be achieved without perseverance and persistent struggle. There is no denying that our university has its drawbacks, and needs a lot of work at the student level, but we can’t overlook the positives.

Lastly, I will just tell everyone to make the most out of your IBA journey. Choose your options wisely (be it your teachers, group of friends or even societies you want to work in). Steer away from controversies but never stop being vocal about anything you see or want to say. There will always be haters, but you’re the one who’ll convert the negative energy to positive dynamics~ Ciao!
