Movie director Rian Johnson, famous for his work in the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”, gives the audience a new film away from fantasy and fiction. The “Knives Out” keeps the audience on the edge of their seats and keeps them guessing till the end.
The Story
The Knives Out is set in New England, the plot includes a famous mystery writer named Harlen Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) who is found dead at his birthday party. His death is considered suicidal. So, the police tend to conduct their final investigation with all the family members and employees who were present at the party.
Meanwhile, a private detective named Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) joins the police. An anonymous person hires him to investigate the sudden death of Harlen. Blanc who calls himself “the passive observer of the truth” uses a US southern accent that makes it harder to understand his words and take his stance seriously.
The Cast
Harlen’s daughter Linda (Jamie Lee Curtis) is a successful businesswoman. She has an infidel husband named Richard (Don Johnson) and a horrible son named Ransom (Chris Evans). Harlen’s son Walt (Michael Shannon) runs the publishing business. But he has been arguing with his father regarding the selling of media rights to the books. Harlen’s daughter-in-law Joni (Toni Collette) is transferring the funds given to her for her daughter’s education into her personal account. Moreover, Marta Cabrera (Ana de Armas), Harlan’s nurse, and most trusted companion plays a key role in the movie.
The story revolves around how Harlen’s assets will be divided among his greedy children. The family gathers and the lawyer arrives; the Will is opened and shocks everyone. Subsequently creating extreme suspicion related to whether it was a suicide or murder. The family allows Blanc to continue his investigation. He is joined by Marta who appears to have a strong alibi and a tendency to vomit whenever she lies.
The movie takes the shape of an old-fashioned thriller and whodunit. The plot with a twisted mystery, suspense, humor, a corpse, and a family shown fighting over an inheritance. To sum up, it’s the perfect family film with a PG-13 rating and a mystery that continues till the end shifting from one suspect to the other.
