Many of you may be alien to the idea of podcasts… Or maybe you have heard the word pop up in mainstream media, but you never cared to learn more about it. Firstly, the term “podcast” is derived from the word iPod and Broadcast as the title suggests. So here it is, the two most popular definitions of podcasts: “Recorded Audio Show” and “Audio Blog”. They are between 5 minutes to 2 hours long depending on the content. Podcast episodes discuss issues related to different aspects of life for example lifestyle, fitness, university, current affairs, or even be in the form of interviews with famous personalities or ordinary people.

Why should you listen to a podcast?
Firstly, podcasts allow you to multitask. Unlike a youtube video that needs you to follow the visual cues that need to go with the audio, in a podcast, your ears are only required to hear. You can listen to the podcast as you clean, or make your afternoon chai. This will allow you to enjoy a podcast without worrying about making extra time for it through sacrificing the time for assignments and quizzes! Secondly, it is another medium of content consumption. Podcasts are a better alternative for auditory learners. Their sharp listening skills are at an advantage.
Finally, that shuttle to and from the city campus and main campus is a heck of a ride and perhaps the best opportunity is to listen to a podcast. If you are tired and music doesn’t feel “right” … listen to a podcast. You will be virtually teleported to the New York Stock Exchange all whilst closing your eyes and feeling the wind rushing through your hair as you sail through University Road.
Our university’s very own podcast: IBA Today – Let’s talk!
IBA today has its very own podcast that goes by the name, “Let’s Talk”. The benefit of having an in-house podcast is that we are able to learn more about the IBA experience and also the opportunities available to students on the local, national and international levels. For example, episode 12 of “Let’s Talk” hosted IBA alumna Ailia Naeem who currently works at AKD securities. The talk covered a very important topic on how to invest your savings and did you know that you only need 5000 to 10000 rupees to start trading! However, not all episodes are serious. Other episodes are more chit-chatty. Episode 8 titled “Snake Friends at IBA” is more comical than the cynical title suggests. Be sure to give it a shot!
In conclusion, listening to podcasts is a nice way to learn during a gym workout, a long commute, or even when you are solving some calculus integrals(this one is for the EM and CS kids).
