Congratulations, you have all reached the enrollment week for Fall semester 2021. Being in my final year, I just realized I need one more enrollment and I will be done with this nightmare. Because of all my previous bad experiences with IBA portal, I happened to login to check if everything is in order,
- Enrollment Appointment check
- Vaccination Certificate check
- All Dues Cleared check
After taking a sigh of relief, I remembered to check whether all my grades from last semester have been uploaded or not. To my surprise there were no grades. You might be thinking, “wait, what?”, “Didn’t IBA give a deadline to all teachers to upload their grades by 15th June?”. It’s been almost two months since the given deadline and still no grade updates from our instructor.
The Teacher
A teacher known for his experimentation rather than his teaching skills, began his new experiment: not giving grades to his students. This is a crucial time for us as we have to meet prerequisites for our courses or the minimum GPA required to take a course in next semester. But we are stuck in a state of confusion with reference to our final semester.
This is quite a unique experiment but not so strange, considering the type of experiments he has already conducted throughout the years in this institute. For instance, failing 25% of freshmen students in his introductory course by tweaking the grading scale above the IBA standard scale in his attempt to raise quality.
When you think about his teaching style, all his sessions made us more confused. I thank God for all those Indian YouTubers who helped us go through this nightmare. But considering I have no scores for quizzes, assignments, or finals, it still makes me wonder if I’ll pass.
The IBA System
The administration needs to understand that just because a teacher is PhD, it does not mean he can teach. Moreover, when teachers teach courses from Stanford, Princeton or Berkeley, it doesn’t mean that they have raised the standard of education. It only puts pressure on students because the syllabus might be the same but there is a difference of day and night in the teaching standards in those colleges and at IBA.
Furthermore, IBA forces its students to fill the evaluation form. Only when we fill it we are allowed to give the final exams. This seems hypocritical because so much emphasis is put on this and little to no impact or action takes place as a result. The institute needs to keep a better check on its instructors if they are one of the biggest business schools in the country.
Conclusion
In the end, I might graduate this year but whatever I achieve in my life I will always represent IBA. It was because of this institute, I was able to make everything possible. And as a student, I want my university curriculum and structure to compete with universities across the globe. I’m willing to play my role, are you?
