Finally, this cursed year has come to an end with a bang. Yes, a bang on our GPAs to be precise. I’m assuming every student on campus would have aimed to set the stage on fire, “Aag Laga da ga,” this semester. However, who would’ve thought kay semester ko hi, “aag lag jai gi”. The pandemic led to the adoption of the pass and fail model in the spring semester of 2020. However, the transition from the pass and fail to the hybrid system was a complete disaster, to say the least.
Faculty Response
The Faculty at IBA, which the Institute takes pride in, received little to no training on how to teach online. To put a cherry on top of student miseries, the teachers are teaching online but they expect students to give exams physically. However, some teachers did change their minds only to bombard students with assignments with crunched deadlines. Overall, the experience is not something to be proud of.
The worse Course of my life
To start off, the students barely learned anything in this course. The Instructor started off his classes by discussing his achievements throughout his career. In the second week, the classes revolved around discussing the role of Ertugrul in the Pakistani entertainment industry. Let me remind you this course is one of the cores of Computer science. Fast forward to week 6, the instructor took a vacation trip mid-semester. Furthermore, there were many instances where he created excuses for not taking classes. These “instances” included the need to take his car for service or his laptop ran out of charge.
The most Bizarre online exam of my life
Pre- Exam
Initially, the Instructor tried to talk us into giving a physical exam. Once that didn’t work out, he threatened the students with a long list of unrealistic requirements for an online exam. For example, if you suffer from load shedding during exam hours and got disconnected, your exam is over. Thank God! the Chairperson stepped in to facilitate the students and to reduce these requirements. However, the Instructor still ended up creating a poll regarding the mode of exam and pressured students to opt for a physical exam. Eventually, this led to many students opting for a physical exam.
During the Online Exam
Moving towards the exam day, the Instructor decided to have a hybrid exam. Hence, the same exam will take place online and offline at the same time. The students who opted for the exam online were required to join a zoom call and share their live location via Whatsapp. Thirty minutes into the exam and students still hadn’t received the exam. Finally, they got the first section of the exam and then had to solve it and email it to the Instructor so that they can get the second section.
During the exam, the students were required to open their cameras and show their location by moving around the given place. After 3 hours of the most bizarre exam, the students finally got over with it.
Grade Day
Well, what can you expect from a teacher who barely taught us anything regarding the course except for rote learning? Furthermore, to add salt to our wounds, the Instructor deducted marks for the students who opted for an online exam. In the end, all students who gave an online exam scored only a C+. In conclusion, I have another course with the same Instructor next semester and he has already warned us to not take it from him after our enrollment had ended. Hence 40k wasted and 40k more to go.

It pains me to hear these stories from IBA students, because IBA’s faculty is supposed to be the “best” but alot of these teachers have been highly unaccommodating during the pandemic
Its unfortunate how so instructors fail to show the least amount of decency at times.
