We wholeheartedly congratulate Muhammad Mussa, Syed Muhammad Wasiq Hussain, and Hafiz Muhammad Ali Noor on raising over PKR 3 million for charity since the imposition of the nationwide lockdown. Truly, not all heroes wear capes!
The spread of COVID-19 has posed grave danger, especially in communities with floundering healthcare systems. The outbreak of coronavirus has hit the vulnerable members of the society, now driving families deeper into the quicksand of destitution. Therefore, a large quantity of incredible volunteering and donating opportunities have sprung up in the wake of the crisis. Surveying and ranking all of them are beyond our abilities. However, a multitude of charity drives organized by a trio of IBA students strikes me as especially promising for people in stable financial positions to donate toward.
“We started making all the arrangements two days prior to the imposition of the lockdown. Hence, I hoped to create a channel through which we could provide essentials and expected relief to the families affected by COVID-19 lockdown,” says Mussa.
Upended family life around the world has impelled everyone to work remotely and practice social distancing. The escalation of job losses ensuing from the temporary suspension or cessation of business operations has put the Pakistani workforce’s livelihoods at risk. As a matter of fact, many people are now constrained to forsake their homes and friends.
The sensation of the latent shackles of poverty worn by over 70 million Pakistanis has deteriorated since the rapid spread of the global pandemic.
Amid these regressive times, the trio has been responsive to the nourishment and monetary needs of those affectees. Mussa, Wasiq, and Ali have managed to render financial aid to over 1000 families in Karachi, Chakwal, Tharparkar, and other areas of rural Sindh.
The boys first run the verified cases against the government portal; an application provided by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Secondly, a team of volunteers visits the potential beneficiaries to corroborate the credibility of the cases. A registry is then prepared upon the submission of the CNIC copies to keep a record of the individuals and families that have been delivered assistance to. Moreover, it is worth noting that the distribution of ration packages and other forms of assistance occurred in line with the implementation of the WHO-recommended safety measures.
A huge shoutout to SWVL for collaborating with the boys in this noble cause. The service helped them in providing door-to-door ration delivery services free of charge.
The economy of Pakistan is in bad shape and may get worse. Hence, we must realize that panicking and crawling into a hole is unreasonable. The only rational way to respond to the crisis is to “give back” to the community.
COVID-19 IS NOT JUST A TRAGEDY; IT IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD A BETTER WORLD.
