On popular demand, we are back again with another article on IBA Entry Test. Before I begin with this article, I just wanted to thank you guys for all your support on my previous article regarding the math section of the entrance exam. So, without further ado, let us begin.

Well, worry not because we have been in the same boat my partner. See the issue is that we were always taught English language. In as opposed to this, we were never told how to interact with it and be comfortable with it. To be truly good at a language, you have to spend time with it. Gaari chalai hai na boss! Lesson 1: Listen
The above picture demonstrates to you that although the English language may have some conventional rules, they are not always followed. For instance, the plural of bid is bids but the plural of child is children. The point I want to make is that when you read an English sentence, if you have interacted with the English language enough, you can figure out what is wrong with the sounds. It is using these sounds one can also figure out, what is wrong in a question on the IBA Entry Test. Here is another example to demonstrate this: The players bag was lost. The sentence is almost correct but you can hear something wrong, right? Go read it again. Can you identify what is the issue? It is the missing apostrophe in the word player’s. See, I will not go into the details of possessive nouns and subject-verb agreement or what not, for that refer to these videos, 1 and 2. All I am saying is you can actually catch these small errors without really studying them in a formula type fashion. Rather just use your repeat these sounds. All in all, apney dil ki suno, however;
Lesson 2: Shahrukh Khan
Remember this weirdo… Guess the movie? Yep, you are right! It is Shahrukh Khan starring movie “Fan” in which a crazy fanboy chases him cause he loves him way too much. Speaking of FANBOYS, having trouble with commas on the IBA Entry Test ? Easy Peasy Lemon squeezy. Just remember FANBOYS but Shahrukh Khan ki tarah nahi please :().
As the above picture demonstrates, the comma in FANBOYS, always follows before them. This is a static rule and makes your life easier kind of like the static rule that in every Salman Khan movie, you will see Salman bhai half-naked with CGI made 6-packs and a story line that is gibberish. Speaking of gibberish try pronouncing isawawubub! I am just kidding.
isawawubub – an acronym that makes the phrase Chandu Ke Chacha Ne, Chandu Ki Chachi Ko, Chandni-Chowk Mein, Chandni Raat Mein, Chaandi Ke Chammach Se Chatni Chatai sound easy – it kinda also helps you with another rule. For example when using as, since, if, etc., in a sentence say “When it is hot, I turn the air conditioning on.“, notice the underlined part. Or “Since he left school, we have not seen him since.”. Do you see it!? isawawubub then represents a certain set of words that have to be treated this way at all times. Up until now, you have prepared yourself for 15-20 questions that will appear in the English section just like that.
Lesson 3: Don’t try to find the answer, find the ANSWER!
See the above image. Right, this is precisely the most common mistake with passages on the IBA Entry Test that I have noticed in students. I have seen students read a passage to get an answer to a question that they have already foreseen. But that’s the thing, you are not answering a question! You are answering the question with reference to how the passage suggests it as. Observe the example below.
Now, after looking at all those tough words, your answer should be anthropologist. If you thought of a different answer let me explain to you what you did. You A) either tried to understand the entire passage instead of recognizing the first question usually has the answer in the first few lines or B) you either got super confused because you had already presumed that Victor is a sociologist. That is the key here, you have to remain focused on the question. Try the next one, and this time, just think about what the question is asking with reference to the passage and that the answer is in the middle?.
The correct answer is D. Even if you did not guess it right, it is okay. Everything comes with practice and with passages on IBA Entry Test, it is all about recognizing certain sentence structures. You, however, must not panic. What I will suggest is, in situations where you get confused, go with your gut i.e., the first answer you picked. Trust me, statistically, I did far better on questions I was confused about in the passages section when I chose the first option I had thought of.
Lesson 4: Words
Do not be like Mr. Trump and invest some time in learning the tough words for the IBA Entry Test. They are oft repeated and perhaps, you may not know their definition entirely, but with given context, and if you have prepped just enough, you might recognize them. Another thing:
DO NOT PANIC! They are just words and trust me, the comprehension part of the test is always harder for most students. So while you can, try using your time in the grammar section and do not just get stuck on comprehensions at the end of the test and sit there full macho ho ke like Mr. Vimal Pan Masala – jab aapka chehra already yeh khabar dey raha ho ke aapkey lag chukey hain.
Bonus Lesson:
Transition words such as however, furthermore, consequently, etc. will always have the comma follow them. For instance, “I am done with homework. However, I am tired now.”. Additionally, a comma is supposed to suggest a small pause. So if you want to check whether a comma is in the right place or not, just see if the small pause in the sentence at that place makes sense or not.
