‘Enrollment;’ the biggest nightmare an IBA student lives through. You may desire that perfect schedule and an ideal grading plan with teachers so lenient and course loads so relaxed. But the path isn’t so easy.
It’s like you are walking into an unknown abyss of darkness, destined for an unexpected schedule, with weeks and months of dreading your grades.
The stress and workload of your courses haunting you through the days. A choice they say we have, the time they say we’ll get, but even the thought of it sends shivers down your spine. Only a few emerge unscathed from this horror while most endure this agony.

Globally Enrollment is considered one of the most empowering times in university. Its the time where one can choose the courses that fascinate him/her. However, the standard of enrollment at IBA is deteriorating semester after semester. The introduction of enrollment appointment with the list of courses and slots one can choose have limited the options for students.
Furthermore, with the abolishment of manual enrollment and second enrollment being just a mere formality, most of the students are not even enrolled by the time the semester begins.
IBA portal problems
There are several extremes in this nightmare which a student fears encountering. At times the portal will crash, you’ll make the mistake of deleting all your courses, or if you’re too unlucky, they’ll get dropped from your cart without you even dropping them. Even though there is a difference in time slots for enrollment given to different batches and programs, one cannot expect things to turn out as planned. Moreover, for transfer students, a separate time slot is futile in its essence when the capacity of classes does not even substantially increase.

Limitation of teachers at IBA
Secondly, the limitation of teachers at IBA has resulted in a high student to teacher ratio. As a result, we have some mega classes of more than 60 students in each. This not only reduces the standard of quality learning but creates a potential decline of talented graduates due to a lack of attention and focus.
Thus a student rightfully deserves attention from his teacher. A teacher should have a limited capacity where he/she can allocate that attention substantially to. But that needs to be realized at the administrative level first.
Additionally, the requirement for Ph.D. scholars at IBA has also become redundant in this day and age. It needs to be understood that every Ph.D. scholar is not fit for teaching. The elements of experience, knowledge, and expertise need to be taken into consideration rather than just a degree of qualification.

Course Scheduling at IBA
Lastly scheduling a course has become a total nightmare. Students must choose from a long list of courses in an excel file. A lot of students aren’t aware of the fact that there are certain apps for scheduling and managing timetables. But that is a way students have taken out for themselves. Unlike something officially being done by the administration who should be adapting to ways of convenience for their students.
Hence, improving the portal should be the utmost priority for the administration. Students at IBA are a great in-house resource who can help facilitate this process. A committee can be identified with consultants, programmers, and students with relevant expertise that can help provide a sustainable solution.
Also, having quality teachers is a basic right for students who are paying 35k to study a course in one of the most prestigious university in Karachi. The precedence for that prestige should not be compromised and quality education should be a priority. Evaluation should not only be a formality for students, and consideration should be given towards it.

The creation of the IBA Scheduler and Enrollment Games web applications by students, schedule making has become a smoother process. But the way courses are being organized, allocated, and then rescheduled, that needs to be pre-handled and schedules should be well thought out before being announced.
Conclusion
To conclude Enrollment issues exist in universities across the world where everyone will not get their desired course with their desired teacher. However, the administration needs to be more accommodating towards students and start considering ways to help make this process easier.
But if enrollment is a choice, then that choice needs to be rightly given, not just be a mere formality. It’s about time this nightmare ended, and the dream of a smooth IBA enrollment comes true.

Administration needs to change the fees charging criteria off students are getting less courses due to no fault of theirs. I myself had a clash in my 5th and 6th course, shop I too have 5 courses instead of 6! If admin doesn’t want to change the criteria for the fees, the least they can do is to make an exception for those who are enrolled in less courses with no other choice.
Thank you
