The Stigma around Mental Health:

Brought up in an environment with a stigma around mental health has certainly changed how we respond to stressful situations. Because of this, most of us have developed unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with everyday stressors. Moreover, when considering the effects of COVID-19 on social interactions, most people feel a heightened feeling of loneliness and anxiety. Adjusting our daily life to a new normal of social distancing, less outdoor activities, and excessive screen time. As a result, we find ourselves out of balance, and perhaps, even lonely.

Despite IBA’s effort to provide students with counseling options at the university, with soaring demand for mental health services and a shortage of counselors, most people end having to wait for weeks to finally get an appointment. , However, with the option for zoom meetings now there might be a chance of getting a prompter response

How Technology May Increase Accessibility to Mental Care Needs:

Fortunately, with emergence of online and live sessions, technology might bridge the gap in connecting students with mental healthcare providers. For instance, with apps like Calm and Headspace, most students can benefit from guided meditations to manage stress and practice mindfulness.
Similarly, it’s equally important for educational instructors to inculcate a safe learning space for students. In conclusion, teaching methods should never involve fear and humiliation as a motivator to secure better grades.
