Winter and Warmth

Winters have always attracted me the most and I could never understand why. Maybe it has to do with the sunsets that become extraordinarily beautiful during this time. Perhaps, it has to do with the long nights with hot chocolate and marshmallows. Or maybe, it’s the unusual warmth that the season brings with it. Pinpointing one cause for why this season is different than the rest is hard. So here are some of the things that I always enjoy when it’s that time of the year!

Cozy Winter Days

Whenever winter is here, every day is a spa day for me. A hot shower where I cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize almost thrice a week. When out of the shower, the bed is waiting for us with the quilt inviting me to join. This is the best feeling in the world! To lay in bed, all cozy, and getting things done.

The best part about snuggling into your bed is hot chocolate! It is a drink that is essential for winters. You feel the cold breeze on your skin that sends a chill all over your body but the warm blend of cocoa and milk with a handful of marshmallows engulfing you in its warmth just brightens your mood and is a delightful way to start your day (or if you’re taking a break then it is beyond delightful!)

Most people feel lazy and fall asleep real quick after getting in bed. For me, on the other hand, I feel relaxed and free which gives me the boost I need to get things done.

A foodie’s dream

I am a foodie! Baking and trying out new recipes and cuisines is one of my hobbies. During winter, the taste of scrumptious food elevates and compliments the cold wintery days.

Some of my favourite food during the winter are soups, pasta, cinnamon roll, hot chocolate and cinnamon roll. I plan on making Gumbo sometime soon as soon as my semester is over!

What excites me the most is when I try new recipes. From the mechanics of baking to the tricks to the perfect desi dish, I want to learn all of it. Cooking, for me, is a way to de-stress myself from the worries of life. We all know how Pakistan’s summers are and it is hellish cooking in the heat — Kudos to all the supermoms out there! — but when it’s winter, you can showcase the hidden chef within you!

Outfits

One of the many blessings that winter has is the creative outfits that one could come up with. I am the type of person who prefers long and baggy clothes and winter is the perfect season to showcase many outfits that I had planned to wear over the last 6 to 7 months. The cute pastel colours match perfectly with the icy cold days. A winter photoshoot is a must for anyone who loves to style and take pictures!

Perhaps the best thing winter brings along are the mesmerizing sunsets. The vibrant hues of purple, yellow and red combined with the frosty wind is the perfect way to detox from a stressful day. Watching the sun sink with the colours following along gives us a sort of comfort that many of us are looking for. What makes these sunsets even more magical are the friends who you know will always be there for you whether it is to spend quality time with or when you’re having a bad day. They have a knack for cheering you up.

In the end, winter has a cunny way of finding our soft spot. From the long strolls during the night with music on full volume to the karaoke of the bonfire night when we have a get-together. These are the times that fill our hearts with warmth and tells us that even though life is a bit overwhelming and cold, it’s the people and the little things that bring us joy and warms up our otherwise mundane days.
