Transitioning to university life is a consuming change, let alone the first day, bringing you many overwhelming emotions and feelings. Just now, I can easily laugh off at flashbacks of my fears and anxieties of the first day at IBA. But if I look back and reminisce about my nervousness, it all seems too understandable and defensible.
Little did I know that the years to come would be the most enthralling and life-altering days of my life. The fears would soon grow out of me. Each day would pass, learning new lessons, making new friends, devouring the most savory foods, and enjoying little more than the last. And indeed, the same would happen with you too!
Here’s a glimpse into the catalog of a few relatable fears you all may have on your first day:
The first day at IBA brings the fear of not fitting in
When you enter your classrooms at IBA, hands down, the university life ambiance takes you by surprise. It feels like now is the time you have entered the real world.
Besides, the new faces do engulf you with all sorts of anxieties- whether you would be able to make friends with people coming in from such a diverse set of cultural, religious, regional, and academic backgrounds, would you be able to stand out and prove yourself, and would you be able to fit into the fast-paced university life of which you must have heard from family and relatives.
Fearing difficult professors
You must have read up on a few reviews by your mates reviewing their experiences with the respective professors, courseloads, and grading, standards-especially the class participation component. Hence, the anxiety about scoring and learning well with a particular professor comes naturally. But you do not know that people usually sound off their experiences with a broad stroke and might not apply to all!
Since all you have done for the past three months is chill at home, do fun or gawk at your screens for hours, so you feel somewhat brittle on the inside. You may think you’ll have to pull the plug on all the fun you used to have. Do not worry! It may seem like an egregious and strenuous venture to start. But believe me, you have everything it takes to ace that professor’s course.
Making friends on the first day at IBA
Some of you may find IBA pretty haunting and daunting without friends in the first place. Especially when you see some people gelling super well with people they know already. However, the dread may also shift a gear up when you see people, with refreshing honesty, being able to make friends on the very first day.
But relax! Do not doubt your socializing skills here. You are just trying to evaluate the best scenarios for yourself. You may also fear getting judged by the new people around you. But, above and beyond, the desperation to look for someone you know of or can connect with is cent percent honest, too.
Getting lost on the campus
This may sound hilarious, but with no dubiety, that is a natural first-day fear at IBA. Remembering which room codes refer to which building is a total mess. It do be like that sometimes. This time, asking your friends if it is Adamjee, Aman, or Tabba can be a hustle on the main campus. And remembering the floor numbers and the classrooms may cause you a bustle at the city campus, too. But you will have it all figured out with time:)
In a Nutshell
Though it may all look too prodigious a pressure to handle. Plausible if you think how on earth you would be able to spend the next four years here. Cheer up; it all does work out eventually!
You would be pleased with your academic, personal, and professional growth. So, it would not be wrong to enunciate that ultimately IBA becomes your home; all IBAians become one big family!
The dismaying courses would soon turn into a series of amusing lectures and fascinating classroom discussions. The alien class fellows would quickly become your close and dependable oppos, more like a family. Soon you would also figure out which ways lead to Tabba block A and which one to Tabba block B at the main campus. Iykyk!
