As Eid is around the corner, there are some unique ways on how us Pakistanis like to spend Eid. Even though this Eid will again coincide with COVID like last year, there are still many ways to get Eidi!

1. Eid ki namaz

As we all develop the habit of sleeping at 5am in Ramadan, it is not to break away from it. Plus, Chaand Raat and excitements attached with Eid, increases the Eidi craving through the roof. As a result, we barely end up getting any sleep thinking about all them moniesss.

Fast-forward to 5:30 am Eid morning, when you feel like you just slept a moment ago and BOOOOM! Your alarm goes off. Even though you snooze it at first, but then double-BOOOOM your mom starts knocking your door. Now, we obviously cannot snooze that.

Hence, we finally gather the courage to get up from bed and wear that new, clean, and well ironed Eid dress, the tags of which are still not removed. Just then you realize that only 30 minutes are left for Namaz! Another rush of adrenaline struck, and you run towards the car calling everyone’s names in the house. Abba! Chachu! Chotay!

Now once you are done with Namaz, you see your parents wave at all those distant relatives whom you have never even heard about. Despite some of them coming up, tapping you on the head, and saying, “MashAllah, itnay barey hogai hou”, there are still no signs of Eidi. But still, be positive you never know who might hand you over that shiny heavy envelope!

2. Eidi walay guests

You return from Namaz and are all excited and geared up to spend this day. But wait a second! Now what? You had a good breakfast and are all dressed up sitting pleasantly on your sofa, but what to do now? Soon your energy level starts to doze off and you decide its better to sleep rather than watch those Eid special morning shows.

But ek minute! What if your mamu or chachu who never leaves you disappointed shows up? And you miss out on one of that Eidi? Hence, its better to sleep on the sofa on your tip toes so that a single bell wakes you up!

As soon as they arrive on Eid, everyone pounces on them like a lion on a deer. Will it be 100? 500? 1000? Nobody knows! And as soon as they turn to leave, you sneak into the envelope to get the gist of it. And ahhhhh that feeling when you see three zero’s from the corner of the envelope…

Now that COVID is here, we might not meet as many guests as we use to. But who says we cannot get the Eidi? Easy paisa karadou!

3. Send over sweet Eidi

Eid ul Fitr is also known as Meethi Eid, and relatives one after another keep sending sweet dishes. From chocolates, to cakes to those yummy gulab jamuns. No doubt we Pakistanis have a sweet tooth, but why can’t we have 2 in 1? A small envelope with a box of sweets will do wonders!
