10th Semester at IBA?

Every year, bi-annually, we have enrollment-games at IBA for everyone. Every year we have winners. Those who get all their desired teachers. Every year we have losers. Those who get none of their jannati teachers. Some celebrate saying “Yaar weekend off milgaya“. While some throw a tantrum and say “Yaar mera schedule boht off hai“. And then there are also some people like:

“Yaar, bro iss sey kya bura ho sakta hai? Koi acha course bhi nahi mila and schdule bhi off bana!”

“Ho sakta hai nahi, hua hai.” Imagine spending a 10th semester at IBA just because “Meh, no one cares at IBA!”.

Meet Wissam:

Wissam Ahmad Wafee, a transferred student to BBA, faced issues we all face. But he paid a dear cost: spending a 10th semester at IBA. Wissam needed a core course to graduate. Already graduating a little late, in his 9th semester, he got the chance to take it. However, due to low enrollment, the course was dropped altogether and he had to wait a few more months. Later during winters, he applied to swap his elective with a core course. Thankfully, he received a call regarding the acceptance of his request and started preparing for graduation. No more 10th semester. All was sunny in Philadelphia, until he went to carry out the final procedure. His request had been rejected. He informed the concerned department heads but has that ever helped? Even communicating with the chairpersons got him nowhere.

Now, after finally getting the course, Wissam is spending his 10th semester at IBA, hopefully his last one. His tale is just another example of the struggles transfer students face. Not only is their enrollment in the end and thus, they have to settle for the leftovers(slots), sometimes, they graduate late. You ask why? Because, as once Shehzad Roy, once said ” koi rule nahin, hai rule yehi, yeh baat sahi, taariq ne ki!”
