Having been raised in a family that constantly consumed rich Urdu literature, I grew up listening to ghazals, qawwalis, shayaris etc. I truly believe that most of us were brought up this way; a way in which we were made to appreciate the poetic-ness of life, a way that ensured we all became a poet. Otherwise, there is no reason why so many of us end up finding the line “Sagar ki, Gharai sey, Ghera hai, Apna pyaar” the best line from Atif’s, Woh Lamhe, all too often. Or the fact that we have at least, once in our life uttered Iqbal’s famous words “Tere ishq ki inteha chahta houn, meri sadgi dekh mein kya chahta houn.”.
Recently, this love for poetry eventually took me to a website where I found the Arab valentine – the Arab poet. This article, in continuation of what I have recently read, presents to you 10 times the Arab poet proved, why he knows your heart better than you know it yourself.
