Student politics at IBA are a rather serious matter. However, the irony is that this seriousness boils down to a couple of wannabe politicians who leave no rock unturned to ensure their deception gets the work done.
Moreover, these are people who would not just lie, make fake promises, and boast about having a tremendous amount of power in the IBA administration, these are DUDES that have an uncontrollable urge to be popular. That’s right! The statement, vanity is my favorite sin, is taken awfully too seriously in this part of the world.
This piece then will serve as a little introduction to the complicated jargon, vocabulary, employed by these DUDES; they even got me under their charm. Welcome to IBA Politics 101!
Kaatna at IBA Politics
Although understood as a verb in the Urdu language, that is often attributed to the act of being bitten by a dog, the DUDES employ it as terminology to suggest how many IBA students were they able to recruit for their respective party. These DUDES sell a vision. A dream that perhaps even Steve Jobs would have bought in to. And yet it is nothing but empty words.
Word Dedou at IBA Politics
A gross mixture of Urdu and English, this next word is employed by the DUDES as means to suggest whether you would join the said party or not. MNS (Mian Nawaz Shariff) once said “vote ko izzat do!”. Similarly, if these DUDES were ever ousted like him, their cry would be “Jani tum ney word Diya tha”. This particular word symbolizes your promise of unconditionally supporting the IBA “political” party. This is regardless of what position it takes on any said matter. And if not complied, it results in the members of the said party defaming you around the campus by spreading rumors. WHAT A NEAT TRICK BY FUTURE LEADERS OF TOMORROW!
Being Apol at IBA
By now etymological understanding of words is a bygone feature of this piece. Apol is short for apolitical individuals at IBA. I know right. Why would you make a short word shorter? Regardless, this word is used to categorize normal people. People who do not worry about who wins the election. Students who don’t care what happens in IBA societies. Rather individuals who just want to study and have a good time. Peeps who would pay for a concert ticket, unlike the DUDES.
Pin Karna at IBA Politics
I would just ask you to guess this one but since I want to be done writing about the DUDES as soon as possible, this word means when a political party consciously or unconsciously harms the interests of another party. Yep, that’s called a pin. A pin can be a social media post so scathing that the millions of followers you have on twitter would laugh on you – that is supposed to be sarcastic just FYI. A pin can be a political party spreading rumors about another party or individual to win the election. There are countless examples of “pins”. Thus, if you want us to cover the best pins in the history of IBA, write to us.
Now that you have been warned, at least slightly, let me just put this out there for our wonderful Freshmen. Don’t give in to this culture. Rise above it for you are better than this. Don’t allow DUDES to pit you against each other because it does not accomplish anything.
