I’m ashamed of what I’m surrounded by. I’m ashamed of what we’ve become.
For a land so persistently and proudly referred to as an “Islamic” republic, we’ve sadly forgotten what it means to be a human. We’ve sunken lower than ever. We have become exactly what we swore to stand against.
For a land that’s so openly referred to as a “shelter to the weak”, we have become predators preying on those we swore to protect. We’ve given in to the evils that honorable societies should be getting rid of.
We’re a “nation” who actively seeks to distribute blame. And sadly, we’ve now reached a new low. We lack the courage to make change, and when the questions get tough, we point fingers.
But here’s the sad part: we’re still pointing fingers. What happened in Lahore isn’t just a wake-up call to the authorities, it’s a mirror. A reality check. A look into what we’ve become as a society; a reflection of our collective conscience.

As a nation who so very proudly quotes the founder on the importance of women’s role in the affairs of the state, we’ve confused good deeds with human decency. We’ve confused our rights with our responsibilities.
I’m ashamed to see the populace make references to distorted religious text. It makes me sick to my core. We’ve really pulled religion into our plight to cover-up our shortcomings as a society. We’ve never gone lower.
We’re high on our privileges, and too blind to see the need for change, since the very idea of change ultimately guarantees an end to our self-induced entitlement.
I know it’s hard for many of us to digest this, but it can’t be ignored any longer: we’re officially the lowest of the low.
At this point, I’m ashamed to call myself a man in this godforsaken piece of land. To all the women surviving in this “republic”; we’re sorry. We’ve failed you.
