Prologue
The world was not ready for a Pandemic that collapsed the health care systems of most developed countries. More clearly, it was not informed beforehand of such an outbreak. In particular, the inadequacy of leadership is accounted for the poor condition of the Health Systems. Technological advancements are good-for-nothing in this global pandemic or this ‘Biological War’. COVID-19 has changed the status of world powers and the era of multilateralism has begun. Moreover, The devastation of COVID-19 exposes the vulnerabilities of the world towards viruses. Showing that the world is a ‘playground’ for such a virus.
The ‘Global Leader’
The novel Coronavirus has triggered the leadership of the individuals as well as the governments. The virus has clearly shown that ‘Humanity lacks leadership’. In recent years, irresponsible politicians have undermined the trust in science and in the concerned authorities. This led to a lower-level international corporation between countries relating to health.
The United States, however, ended its role as a global leader during the virus. It has ended support for international organizations such as the World Health Organization. US Government doesn’t seem interested in containing the virus either. The US is the hardest-hit country with 3.4 million cases and deaths amounting to a quarter of the total figure. The leadership has shown incompetent behavior towards managing the sky-rocketing unemployment rate and the collapse of its healthcare system. Primarily, the refusal of scientific advice and putting the economy before people’s lives has proved to be the worst leadership plan for the US. China has acted as a global leader and assisted other countries with medical equipment.
While people claim that deglobalization is a way of controlling the outbreak. But, the Black Death of the 14th century managed its way on to all the continents even without any vehicles.
Pakistan’s Leadership
Also, Pakistan’s wrong decisions have impacted the country heavily. The long-postponed closure of the Taftan Border was responsible for the influx of cases in Pakistan. Not only Taftan Border but, the Supreme Court’s decision to lift restrictions on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr that allowed the gatherings of people at shopping centers which led the virus to spread further. This caused the cases to cross 200,000 in later July. The mistimed decisions of the authorities who had taken the virus for granted affected the country devastatingly.
The decision to impose smart-lockdown should have been taken earlier in areas where the initial cases emerged. That would have helped in halting the spread during the initial stages. Furthermore, the government should have created their own strategies that could turn out to be effective in the long-term.
Biological War?
After a miraculous surge from China, COVID-19 is pretended to be a biological weapon in the World. For this reason, how come the advancements of the modern world were not able to control a virus? Why have the ‘Super Powers’ fallen short in preparing for this biological war?
The healthcare systems remain the worst exposed sector of the outbreak. Due to the poor healthcare system around the world, health workers have lost their lives while saving others. Furthermore, many are not provided with protective equipment for treating patients and end up being victims as well.
Conclusion
The leadership within people and their governments have failed to face this pandemic. Lastly, mismanagement of decisions has resulted in a collapse of health systems. Slogans of ‘Humanity before everything’ have remained useless during these desperate times.
