The Irani cafes
Irani cafes in the Saddar area have an intriguing history, dating back to the late 19th century when Iranian immigrants arrived in the Indian subcontinent.
They brought with them a culinary tradition that blended Persian and Indian flavors, creating a unique fusion of taste. Additionally, over time, these cafes became an integral part of the social fabric, serving as gathering spots for intellectuals, progressive writers, and common folks alike.
Interestingly, Saddar was a haven for nightlife folks before the Islamization of Zia-ul-Haq began, with its discotheques, clubs, and cinemas. These Irani cafe’s were a popular spot for intoxicated men to stop by for a bite.

Café Mubarak, the oldest survivor
Café Mubarak is the oldest Irani cafe in the area. Popularly chosen by IBA students, Café Mubarak is a less than a minute’s walk from IBA City Campus. Upon entering it, the Café brims with history and eager freshmen waiting for their breakfast.
Café Mubarak is also a popular spot to vape, or smoke. Apart from the smokers friendly environment, the inclusivity in the atmosphere is visible. You will notice residents, including visitors from all origins in the café. Plus, you may observe a man adorned in a Sindhi cap eating his fried eggs with slices of bread, a couple sitting on a table for two savoring a smoke or a Pashtun woman feeding omelet to her kids. It is a pleasant spot to bring all: family, friends and lovers.

Ambiance
Stepping into an Irani café is like stepping into a time capsule. The décor typically features antique furniture, wooden chairs, vintage cupboards, and faded photographs adorning the walls.
Moreover, Café Mubarak exudes the warmth of a hug from your grandmother, it is cozy, and has long ceilings fans, with marble tabletops reminiscent of a homely feeling. The staff is always gentle and offers you the menu with smiles.

Must try Items on the menu
Here are some items reviewed and recommended to try at Café Mubarak:
Chana Paratha: The chanas are cooked in a warm, luxurious gravy with minimal spice. They taste heavenly with the lachaydaar paratha which is piping hot, slightly sweet and very crispy.
Tea and coffee: the doodhpatti chai is boiled to perfection. On chilly days the coffee with its subtle notes of bitterness, is perfection.

Pakistani dishes: Items like the Chicken Korma are served generously, with two fluffy naans under a reasonable price.
