Spoiler alert! The answer is yes. It is indeed possible to have a healthy lifestyle during the month of Ramadan. We are almost halfway through this month but I guess it’s never too late to try to change, right? The underlying message behind Ramadan is to learn the art of self-discipline and self-control. Hence it is not quite recommended to have Sehri and Iftaar like it is your last.
Here are some of the things you can incorporate in your lifestyle to help you become healthier:
Don’t skip your Sehri

Ramadan starts with Suhoor and it is important to have it for a healthy day ahead. As the saying goes, ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’, during Ramadan, it becomes even more important! Although skipping Sehri to have more sleep before Fajr may sound appealing, you shouldn’t do it. Not only will you become extremely dehydrated throughout the day but it will also encourage overeating during Iftaar, which can cause unhealthy weight gain.
Avoid very oily and sugary foods

Ramadan is unfortunately spent as the month of eating so we put on the table a variety of foods. Of course, who would say no to those crispy hot samosas and a chilled glass of Roohafza at Iftaar, no one obviously. Aside from the unhealthy weight gain, consuming fatty and sugary foods also cause sluggishness and fatigue. I’m not asking you to completely stop having these things but there are ways in which you could eat them in moderation.
Drink lots of fluids at Iftaar

Ramadan gives an opportunity to break the fast with Iftaar. However before grabbing food in front of us, we must make every effort to drink at least 2 full glasses of water of lemonade. This will also help in making you consume less oily and fattening items as you tend to feel full after having fluids. This will prevent dehydration and provide your body with the essential fluids it needs. Having fluids before your meal and not during your meal can delay your digestion process.
These were some of the ways which I am trying this Ramadan and you can try as well. On that note, have a blessed and a safe Ramadan!
